Febrile Convulsions

Note

Febrile convulsions can be frightening but Do Not lead to further health problems and will generally finish without treatment

Febrile Convulsions

Are triggered by fever and tend to accompany common childhood illnesses such as the flu, a cold or an ear infection
They are generally brief and will not last more than 5 minutes

Signs and Symptoms

Fever
Difficulty breathing
May be a bluish tinge to the lips and face
Muscular contractions of the limbs, face and trunk

Treatment

During Convulsions

Put the child on the floor to prevent injury
Position them on their stomach or side to prevent choking
Do not hold or restrain the child during convulsions
