Chapter 16

After the pilots had absorbed the incredible review of the goings on at Mount Hayes, they all started to relax, joke and chat generally, whilst eating and drinking. The bell on the apartment door then rang and Logan went to see who it was at this late hour. There was nobody there but there was a plant pot with three snowdrops poking up through the soil left just outside the door.

He walked back into the living room puzzled and carrying the pot and then started to wonder in disbelief.

“Who was it honey?” Madison asked him quietly through the happy chatter in the apartment.⁸

“There was nobody there. Just these three snowdrops in a planter.” He caught her eye as they both guessed who had sent the snowdrops. Somehow.

“So, they do give presents as well! And three snowdrops – that is you, me and baby”

whispered Madison contentedly. Logan nodded.

Madison realised that this was the ideal time for the important announcement.

“Hey guys, listen up!” she said. “There is plenty to celebrate tonight as I also have some personal news we have longed hoped for ages – I am pregnant! I did a positive pregnancy test today when we got back from base and I think our baby will be due around the same time as Dave’s”

She didn’t mention Nusta’s prediction of a baby but Logan and Steve privately remembered it.

This magnificent news called for the recent gift bottle of champagne to be hastily opened up and some rarely used flutes to be filled to the brim. Handshakes and hugs nearly overwhelmed Madison and Logan.

Logan then spoke to give the news that he and Madison would very soon be heading back to the FBI offices in Washington now that this investigation was concluded. Whilst this was inevitable, the pilots all felt a mixture of sadness that this investigation was over but also happiness for Madison and Logan.

Bryce said “You have to take extra special care of this beautiful special woman now Logan!”

“I most certainly will Bryce!” replied Logan happily.

Steve stood up and said,

“I am sure I speak for all here, when I say what an absolute pleasure it has been to work with you two during this investigation. We were a bit surprised when Jackson said that FBI officers were leading the investigation and we had to report to you but that was a perfect partnership. I will miss you both and wish you every success in the future both personally and professionally.”

“Well said Steve and let’s make sure we all keep in touch. ” said Bryce.

“Spot on and there will be some Christening parties for us all soon!” added Dave with his usual big smile.

When the guests had all gone, Logan washed up all the plates and glasses then cleaned the kitchen up. Madison wasn’t allowed to do anything but rest, by order.

“I feel really tired but I doubt I will sleep. So much has happened my mind is in overload”

she added and looked out of the bedroom window towards the sky.

This time Logan read her mind and smiled. “I am sure she is watching over us honey!”
