Concussion

Remember To Send for Help – Call an Ambulance

Signs & Symptoms of Concussion

Loss of consciousness
Confusion and disorientation / poor concentration
Memory loss / amnesia
Fatigue and tiredness / headaches / visual problems

Treatment

Conscious Patient

DRSABCD
If the patient shows signs of concussion they must seek medical assistance

Unconscious Patient

If the patient has suffered a blow to the head it is possible there may be a spinal injury
Check for a response
If breathing normally, carefully place them into the recovery position (try and keep the head and neck in neutral alignment)
Monitor the patient’s breathing
If breathing stops start CPR
If the patient is bleeding from the head arrest the flow using minimal direct pressure
If fluid flows out of the ears cover with a sterile dressing
