Of my skills one of the noblest which I cherish much is poetry. Poetry affords me the opportunity to express my deepest emotions, ideas, assertions, thoughts, opinions, and instructions in the simplest and most intuitive way with just a few lines of words and yet convey a thousand expressions to anyone, old or young.
For a few years, I have made extensive use of poetry to express myself, make people happy and make myself happy when I am down. I began writing poems about the age of 13 years. Before then, I often enjoyed reading the poems my elder sister used to write. I was highly inspired by the splendour of her poems and the bliss I often derived from reading them. Therefore, I decided to start writing my own poems. Starting as an amateur, I found more bliss reading my own poems than reading other people’s poems, believing in my own abilities and the grace of God, I aspired to someday, at some points in space-time, attain unto the highest feats in the beautiful world of poetry. With time, I improved so much more. Most of my poems were influence by my life experiences. On many occasions, I wrote poems to appreciate some of the people I loved most.
A catalyst to the development of my talent is the encouragement I often get from my family and friends, which encouraged me to continue improving the quality of poems I wrote. Reading some of the best works of William Shakespeare, Sir Walter Raleigh and other great poets contributed immensely to the way I write my own poems. Such are extra-ordinary talents who have, with the use of the pen, changed our mode of thinking with just a few lines of words to inspire the reader to develop constructive imaginations which in turn, results in positive changes in the society.
Today, I am a poet by the special grace of God, who in His infinite mercies has bestowed upon me such great endowment as poetry.
The importance of poetry in our world is unquantifiable. It is therefore most honourable to embrace this noble branch of arts as a profession. And to note that, poetry should by all means be used constructively to impart positivity into the lives of all poem lovers. It should never be used as a tool for racial or gender discrimination or expressing any form of violence or erotica.
Let us all strive to ensure that the nobility of poetry is not marred through the incorporation of destructive themes into it. The integrity of a poet should be placed much higher than his/her popularity, knowing fully well that humanity will be able to live in peace and harmony when we do what is right and not what is popular.
If I were asked to define poetry, I suppose, poetry is the most intuitive and simplest way to express human feelings.
To all my fellow poets across all the nations of the world. I wish to implore you to consider ensuring that poems preserver the attribute of simplicity. This entails that poems should be written in a way that is simple enough, such that non-poets would be able to easily comprehend them. Only then can poetry exert the highest level of positive influence on our world.
